As of March 97 Hypercube has announced that ChemPlus 1.6 is now available.
ChemPlus 1.6 is an upgrade of ChemPlus 1.5. It is designed to operate seamlessly with HyperChem release 5. It does not otherwise extend the functionality of ChemPlus 1.5.
Pricing information:
ChemPlus 1.6 is a free upgrade, if you have ChemPlus 1.5 and
HyperChem 5.0 or 5.01. We only ask you to cover the shipping and
handling costs by pre-payment of $US 20. If you are currently
purchasing or upgrading to HyperChem 5, and have an existing copy
of ChemPlus 1.5, you may upgrade to ChemPlus 1.6 at no extra
charge.
How to order:
There are three ways -
(1) at the time of purchase of HyperChem 5.0, request the ChemPlus upgrade. The shipping and handling fee for ChemPlus 1.6 will be waived.
(2) request the ChemPlus 1.6 upgrade separately. The shipping and handling costs of $US 20 must be pre-paid.
(3) if you do not have ChemPlus 1.5, you can order ChemPlus 1.6 for the regular price of ChemPlus 1.5.
All orders MUST include the following:
serial number for ChemPlus 1.5
serial number for HyperChem 5.
"Do I need ChemPlus 1.6?"
If you have HyperChem release 4 or 4.5, no. Even on the Windows
95 or Windows NT 4 platform, ChemPlus 1.5 communicates well with
older versions of HyperChem. If you have HyperChem 5, there are
some "glitches" in accessing ChemPlus 1.5 modules but
they can mainly be overcome by following the instructions in the
following section. However, the interaction between HyperChem 5
and ChemPlus is not as smooth as what we would like it, and thus
we are offering the upgrade to ChemPlus 1.6.
Before March 27, send your order to:

After March 27, send your order to:

Although an upgrade is available for interfacing ChemPlus with HyperChem 5 (see item above), you can continue to use the same ChemPlus modules that you have found helpful with earlier versions of HyperChem.
The ChemPlus 1.5 modules should work properly with HyperChem 5 if the ChemPlus modules are started manually from the individual icons. (During ChemPlus installation, you are prompted for installation of these individual icons.) In Windows 95 you may have to start HyperChem 5 first, and then double-click on the ChemPlus module icon. In Windows NT 4.0, you will notice a separate HyperChem window starts up, and you get the message "ChemPlus failed to attach itself to the HyperChem window" but choose "OK" for the warning message, and close down the extra instance of HyperChem.
The ChemPlus Manager (which has the purple Erlenmeyer flask icon; named HCMANAGE.EXE) is not compatible with HyperChem 5; it will only add the ChemPlus menu items to the regular HyperChem menus, and those added menu items do not function.
In order to run ChemPlus menu items from within HyperChem 5, you must start up HyperChem first and then choose the menu item Script/Open Script. Specify the script file "chemplus.scr" which can be found in the CDK\Menus sub-directory. Run this script. It consists of a single line: "load-user-menu chemplus.mnu". (The .mnu file is also located in the CDK\Menus directory, but you will not be called upon for this during the running of the script.)
The chemplus.mnu file assumes that HyperChem 5 has been installed in the default directory, C:\Hyper5, and that ChemPlus has subsequently been installed in its default directory, C:\Hyper5\Program\Chemplus. The menu file contains the full path for each of the ChemPlus commands. If you have installed HyperChem 5 or ChemPlus in some other directory, you will need to edit chemplus.mnu to show the correct paths.
There are a few inadvertent errors in the chemplus.mnu file
issued on the HyperChem 5.0 and 5.01 CD's. Please download the
corrected .mnu file from our ftp site:

(8 KBytes).
If you change the decimal separator from "," to "." (and change the thousands separator from "." if necessary) in the International settings of the Windows control panel, all should be well. This problem occurs because of undocumented behaviour in Microsoft's programming products. We have informed Microsoft about this and are awaiting their fix. In the meantime one must use a period as the decimal separator for ChemPlus to work correctly with HyperChem.
A problem has also been noted with Windows 3.1 when the language is set to Swedish, Finnish, or Danish--HyperChem's version command stops working which can cause problems with ChemPlus. Switching to a different language or using Windows 3.11 can solve the problem.
There is also a problem when Spanish is chosen as the language. In this case the quotation characters required for Windows DDE are changed, breaking DDE communication with HyperChem. Changing from "Spanish" to "Spanish (Modern)" fixes this problem.
Edit your WIN.INI file. ChemPlus uses WIN.INI and this in turn
needs the following three lines:
[HyperChem] ChemIniPath=C:\Hyper5\Program ChemParmPath=C:\Hyper5\Runfiles ChemExePath=C:\Hyper5\Program
These lines point to the chem.ini, .abp, and chem.exe files, respectively, so if the pathnames for your files are different from what is shown in italics above (the default for HyperChem 5 installation), change the specified pathnames accordingly.
