To correct a disk write error when installation either ChemPlus or HyperNMR, you must ensure that diskette 1 is not write protected.
If Windows crashes during installation, exit Windows, and change the display driver setup to use a standard VGA. The bitmaps displayed during the installation process has been known to crash some SVGA cards. To switch back to the standard VGA driver, exit Windows.
Change directory to your Windows directory. Invoke the 'setup' command. A blue setup screen should appear, listing: Computer, Display, Mouse, Keyboard, Keyboard layout, Language and Codepage. Remember the value for 'Display', you will need this when you revert back to your SVGA driver. Now, cursor down to the 'Display' and hit press ENTER. A menu should appear. Select VGA from this menu and proceed. Once the installation completes, revert back to your SVGA driver.
This sort of message indicates that a file that the installation process is trying to create or update on the hard drive is already present and in use. (In rare cases, it might indicate a problem with the hard drive itself.) This may be because other software, already running, is using the file. When you are installing software, nothing except for Windows itself should be running, and you should make sure that the files on your machine are not being accessed over a network.
There are a couple of files, such as THREED.VBX and CTL3D.DLL, that are sometimes used by Windows itself after installation by software. An error message of "Cannot copy THREED.VB_" or "Cannot copy CTL3D.DL_" indicates a problem in updating one of these files. If possible, you should delete (or temporarily rename) the appropriate file in \WINDOWS\SYSTEM either with the File Manager or from an MS-DOS prompt window. Windows may not allow you to do this. If not, you must exit Windows to DOS and rename or delete the file. Re-entering Windows and repeating the installation should then work smoothly.
