The following guidelines should be used when
installing HyperChem 5 on a Windows NT 4 system:
- Install HyperChem 5 as Administrator. The
default installation directory is C:\Hyper5.
Note: HyperChem must be installed using an
Administrator account since it requires write
access to the Window's System directory to store
shared libraries.
Log out and log back in as the user in which you
wish to run HyperChem.
Go to the installation directory (e.g. C:\Hyper5)
and double-click on the CHEM50.REG file.
This will make the necessary registry
modifications for the current user.
From the Program directory, found in the
HyperChem installation directory (e.g.
C:\Hyper5\Program), double-click on the Chem.exe
icon to launch HyperChem.
Fill in the dialog to complete the software
registration information. This will be required
for each user account that will be running
HyperChem.
If you are not using the Soft Key option
for licensing and are instead using either
network licensing or a hardware lock, skip to
step 7.
From the same Program directory in step 4,
double-click on the HCLicense.exe icon to
register a Soft Key authorization code.
You will need to contact Hypercube, Inc. to
obtain this code.
Run HyperChem (see step 4). From the Fileà Preferences menu,
select Paths. Set the correct paths,
according to the following example, to configure
HyperChem for your environment:
- Executable Files:C:\Hyper5\Program
- Parameter Files:C:\Hyper5\Runfiles
- Script Files:C:\Hyper5\Scripts
Substitute C:\Hyper5 in the previous
example with your local HyperChem installation
directory.
For Log Files and Ab Initio Integrals,
a directory should be chosen that the user has write
access to. If users will be running HyperChem
simultaneously in a network environment, the Log
Files and Ab Initio Integrals should be stored in a
unique directory for each user.
- Since the installation may
not create program groups and icons for each
user, it may be necessary to create Program
Shortcuts for the user to launch HyperChem
and any other installed components. To create a
Program Shortcut, follow these steps:
- Right click on the Windows Start
button and select Explore to launch the
Windows Explorer.
- Locate the Program directory, found in the
HyperChem installation directory.
- Right click on the Program Icon that you
want to make a Shortcut for and select Create
Shortcut. If, for example, you create a
shortcut for Chem.exe you will see a
"new file" named Shortcut to
Chem.exe.
- By left clicking on the new shortcut, drag the
shortcut to the users desktop. This will
place a new Desktop Icon on the
users desktop that may be used to launch
HyperChem.
If you have installed HyperData or Raytrace,
it may be necessary to create shortcuts to HCData.exe
and HCRay.exe. The default installation
directories for these are C:\Hyper5\Data and C:\Hyper5\Raytrace,
respectively.
