The installation of the soft key version of HyperChem 7.5 for Networks is a three stage process. The first stage requires the installation of the License server. The second stage is obtaining a license key to activate the product. The third stage is installation of HyperChem 7.5 on client machines.
Before beginning the installation process, you may visit the Hypercube Technical
Support web site at http://www.hyper.com/support
for the most complete installation information. You may contact the technical support staff via
email at support@hyper.com.
NOTE:
Before you begin, please make sure that the network configuration necessary for the License Manager to function correctly is installed.
First, verify that the TCP/IP protocol is installed on the network server and client workstations. Also make sure that for Windows 95 and 98 computers the
'Client for Microsoft Networks' is installed and bound to the TCP/IP protocol. If not, contact Hypercube, Inc. to verify a custom set of protocols.
Also, if HyperChem clients are to be used from
outside the local subnet of the license server, please verify that the names of
the computer to be used as a license server and all the clients have computer
names that are properly resolved into IP addresses. If you are using the Domain
Name System (DNS) to issue permanent IP addresses, the DNS server will also
provide name resolution. However, networks using the Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol (DHCP) to issue temporary IP addresses may use several methods for name
resolution. For further details concerning name resolution, please consult the Name
Resolution Overview.
Installation Instructions
1. Install the Sentinel License Manager Software
On the computer which is to act as a license key server, insert the HyperChem
7.5 CD-ROM to start the Setup program. If the initial install screen does not appear, start the Setup program by double clicking on the 'setup.exe' filename or the setup icon from the CD-ROM.
Proceed, following the on-screen instructions. Select to install the 'Purchased Product' for product type and 'Networked' for license type. Then select to install the 'Network License Server' and select 'Software-locked' for the license server type.
After entering your registration and dealer information, you will be presented with a choice for the destination folder. Choose a name for the License server directory (e.g.
C:\HyperChem_Server) and click Finish. This will install the License key server components on the target machine. Once this step is completed, the setup program will exit. (This document assumes that
C:\HyperChem_Server is the folder to which the License server is installed from this point forward.)
Using a file browser open the license server folder (C:\HyperChem_Server). You will find folders named
'Admin' and 'Server'. The 'Admin' folder contains utilities for the Network administrator to administer the license server and the 'Server' folder contains the server files.
Also in the license server folder (C:\HyperChem_Server) you will find the SentinelLM System Administrators guide (lmsa61.pdf) in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The Acrobat Reader may be installed from the HyperChem CD-ROM by running setup.exe from the Acrobat folder.
2. Fingerprinting the computer and obtaining a license key
Please make sure that the IP address and Hostname of the License server are permanent.
Run the 'echoid.exe' program contained in the License server folder (usually
'C:\HyperChem_Server\Admin'). This program generates two locking codes.
Please note these locking codes and send them to license@hyper.com along with the following information:
Serial Number of the product
Number of Network Licenses purchased
A list of IP subnets (maximum of 7) from which the client computers
will access the license server.
On receipt of this information, Hypercube, Inc. will generated a license key and send it to you via e-mail.
When you receive the email containing the license file, copy the attached file to a safe location on your computer, and install the license following the steps here.
***An exception: If your server uses a Pentium III processor, do not
use the program "echoid.exe." Instead, please use the program
"wechoid.exe" to generate your locking codes. Make sure to
deselect the Processor ID option when generating your locking codes.
Please contact support@hyper.com if you
have questions on this.***
A. Start the License Manager Service
To start the license server under Windows NT, first start the 'Command Prompt' and change to the license server folder (usually
'C:\HyperChem_Server\Server\Winnt\'). Then type 'loadls' and direct to the location of the 'lservnt.exe' file to start the server.
To start the license server under Windows 95 or 98, first start the 'MS-DOS Prompt' and change to the license server folder (usually
'C:\HyperChem_Server\Server\win9x\'). Then type 'lserv9x.exe' to start the server.
B. Install the license
At the command prompt change to the License Manager administration tools folder (usually
'C:\HyperChem_Server\admin'). Then install the license by typing 'lslic -F licensefile.lic' where 'licensefile.lic' is the license file you received from Hypercube, Inc. (Be sure to type a capital letter for the -F command.)
C. Confirm the installation
If you wish to confirm the proper installation of the license server you may use the administration tools that are provided with HyperChem. The tools are
available in the 'C:\HyperChem_Server\admin' folder on the license server. To execute the Windows license reporting tool, start
'WLMAdmin.exe'. This tool will show the license server(s) on the local subnet and any licenses
that are installed. The command prompt version of this tool is 'lsmon.exe'.
The tools to test the license installation are also installed on the network
clients in the \Hyper75\admin folder. You may also test these tools from the network clients
by using these tools. The results should be identical.
If the client computer does not show available licenses installed on the server, then the broadcast method used by the License Manager may not work.
You will need to include the LSHOST or LSFORCEHOST environment variable on the client computer to direct HyperChem to the location of the server.
For further information on the Rainbow Technologies License Manager administration tools, please consult the accompanying SentinelLM System
Administrator's Guide (lmsa61.pdf). Use Adobe Acrobat to view the Guide.
3. Installing HyperChem 7.5 on Client machines
On each of the client machines install HyperChem 7.5 from the CD-ROM following the on screen instructions. Select to install the 'Purchased Product' for product type and 'Networked' for license type. Then select 'HyperChem client' component and 'From Software locked Server'. Select the type of install, Typical, Minimal or Custom. Choose the folder into which you want to install HyperChem (the default is
C:\Hyper75). Click finish to proceed with the installation. After the installation is done setting up HyperChem, installations for
POV-Ray and Acrobat Reader will follow.
NOTE: The license server components should not be
installed on the client machines.
Once the license server is activated with the proper license key, HyperChem can
be used from any of the client machines. If the license key server is not on the
same subnet as the client machines, acquiring a license by the client machine
can be done by any of the following methods:
A. Set the LSHOST Environment Variable to the IP address of the license
server.
On a Windows 95, 98 or ME client, set the environment variable by including the line 'SET
LSHOST=<IP address of server>' in the autoexec.bat file
of the client computer. You will need to restart the computer before this
change will go into effect.
On an Windows NT or 2000 client set the environment variable by selecting
'Properties' from My Computer and selecting the 'Advanced' tab. Click on
'Environment Variables...' and then click New under 'User variables.' The
variable name should be LSHOST and the value is the IP address of the license
server computer.
B. Alternatively, create a file named "LSHOST", containing the IP address or hostname of the license server machine. Place this file in the directory containing HyperChem program executables.
Start HyperChem by selecting the icon from the Start Menu.
